Generation lost

South Africa is currently experiencing one of the most severe AIDS epidemics in the world. With statistics showing that almost one in five adults are infected. Here at The heartfelt Project World Aids Day is close to all our hearts.

Not only does it impact on all our lives, but also on our families, friends and the whole community. We've all lost someone close to us from AIDS - Martha lost her sister only last year. It saddens us to see the many mothers who have lost their children - and even worse the many children who have lost their mothers. We see grandparents looking after grandchildren, an increase in the number of orphans and feel there is a huge gap within our community. It is thought that almost half of all deaths in South Africa, and a staggering 71% of deaths among those aged between 15 and 49, are caused by AIDS. A lost generation.

In just the past year, the AIDS epidemic in Africa has claimed the lives of an estimated 1.6 million people. More than eleven million children have been orphaned by AIDS. And the numbers are growing.

It is difficult to overstate the suffering that HIV causes in Makapanstad alone. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Helping just one small community like ours could impact on hundreds of lives.

Let's work together to try and close the gap and help the community heal the nation. A Re Aganeng is set up to look after sick people & AIDS orphans (read more about their incredible work on our charities page). Any donations are most welcome.
